The Retest!
Dear Friends,
Last November my son Josiah went to take the written part of his drivers test, he studied as well as he thought he could, he used an app to practice that his friends had recommended and, yet he failed. He was a little discouraged but decided he would spend more time studying.
In July he went to take the test again. He spent more time studying, this time he even added the book the state suggested to study. He was excited, he went and stood in line for over an hour, he was focused and confident about 30 minutes later he came out again, he had failed. He was frustrated he couldn’t pass this test. He couldn’t understand why it was so difficult for him to pass this simple test. He is an A student, this test should be easy.
About a week later he decided to take the test again, and I said, Bud, just take your time and remember the Holy Spirit. I will tell you, He passed!!! I asked him what He did differently this time? He said I prayed before each question and asked the Holy Spirit to help me. This time he didn’t have to take the entire test as a matter of fact it kicked him out early because he had already answered most of the questions right.
With the help of the Holy Spirit he was able to do what seemed impossible, he was able to overcome what had him frustrated. My God! How many test in life have we failed because we simply didn’t rely on the help of the Holy Spirit to help us pass the test. How many times have I been in situations relying on the wisdom of others, the wisdom of the world but forsaking the Wisdom of the Holy Spirit, which was all I really needed.
But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. James 3:17
I think we could all take some notes from Josiah and spend less time leaning on our own understanding and more time leaning on God! I don’t like to fail. I especially don’t like to retest. God sent us a helper (see John 15:26-27) one to help us remember and walk through life.
Father forgive me for leaning on my own understanding.
Help Holy Spirit,
LMJ
