God is Good

Dear Friends,

Johnathan McReynold’s has a song called, “God is Good.’ Paraphrasing the lyrics…….

May Your struggles keep you near the cross

May your troubles show that you need God

May your battles end the way they should

And may your bad days prove that God is good

And may your whole life prove that God is good……

The Psalmist David wrote many scriptures about how good God was.

Psalm 119:68, “You are good, and what you do is good……”

Psalms 136:1-3 “ Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.

Psalm 100:5, “For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.”

Psalm 23:6 “Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

David had experienced the struggles of being hidden in the background. His own father, Jesse, did not recognize his calling, he thought he was to fill the role most younger sons did, as shepherd boy. He dealt with the troubles of him lusting after another man’s wife (Bathsheba), which resulted in him committing adultery, and then murdering Uriah, to cover his sin. He faced numerous battles from the slaying of Goliath the Philistine; to battling the Philistines army. He wasn’t exempt from bad days. In which he had to deal with the result his sins. His first born son born of Bathsheba died. His son Amnon raped his half-sister Tamar, to which David chose to ignore. His other son Absalom, took matters into his own hands by killing Amnon, to avenge Tamar. At that point Absalom, exiled himself from his family, then conspired to take over his own daddy’s (David) throne, which resulted in Absalom’s death . Yet, through all the countless things that David faced! David, never took these as reasons to run from God, but chose to repent for his part and run full speed to God’s goodness.

Can we all agree that David endured many things? Yet, look at his life we can still see clearly that God remained with Him, and was good to him. It is my prayer that we have that same revelation of God’s goodness in our lives. That no matter our past experiences, or the current things we are experiencing. That we remain (rest) in the truth of Romans 8:28, “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”

May our whole life prove that God is Good!
