Daddy's Pancakes
Dear Friend, On the weekends my family and I love to enjoy pancakes. Usually my husband cooks up the flapjacks. But on this particular Saturday my girls, Alyssa and Brook (who are 11 and 10) wanted to serve up breakfast for the family. My plan was to guide and monitor the process in the kitchen from a far. I’d ask them questions that encouraged them to tap into what they already knew. This can be hard at times for me because I tend to rush people through the problem solving if I already know the answer. The first question I asked was, “Alyssa do you know how to do this?” And her response was priceless...”Yes, because I’ve watched my Daddy do it!” I immediately took a step back and was able to watch first hand the fruit of the example that her dad had set for her! Breakfast was a success (with minimal assistance from me)! In this moment I began to reflect on the following scriptures... John 5:19 So Jesus explained, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself. He does only what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does, the Son also does. Ephesians 5:1 Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Our lives should reflect Jesus! And Jesus only did what He saw His Father do. More importantly we should be imitating God because we’re His dear children. A child follows the lead of the credible source in their life! What credible sources are you modeling after? If it’s not God and His Word then you might want to reconsider what you’re doing. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you! Have confidence in the Word and say it like Alyssa, “I can do it, because I saw my Daddy do it!” May Grace and Peace be multiplied to you my friend! Christ prepares the way, delegated the power and authority and only did what God had already done. Stay close and follow His lead. Because of Christ, you can do it! Jess
