Do You Set the Temp?
Dear Friends,
It’s spring in the south, to which we often refer to as summer altogether, because of the humidity. We have a timed thermostat that we use to regulate the temperature in our home. Once we program the thermostat, we don’t pay much attention to it, because it does the job without requiring much interference from us. When the temperature changes out in our home, the thermostat knows how to stay in control of how hot or cold our home will be.
As followers of Christ, are we influencing our surroundings, or are the surroundings influencing us?
Romans 12:2 NIV tells us, “ Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will.
We can translate that as, (paraphrase with emphasis added).” Do not conform to the pattern (temperature) of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you be able to (be the thermostat) to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will. In our daily life we should be the thermostat that controls the environment verse being controlled by the temperature surrounding us.
Remember a thermostat controls the heat and cold around it and is not affected by its surroundings. That does reign true for the thermometer as it is always affected by its surroundings. Let’s decide today what kind of believer you will be. Thermostat or Thermometer?
As John wrote in John 16:33 NIV, “ I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace (be the thermostat). In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
He has already placed the thermostat in us, His Spirit. Just remember that your flesh the temperature lives there too.
Galatians 5:16 NIV, “So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.”
We get to make a choice daily to deny our flesh (the temperature) and walk in the Spirit ( the thermostat).
