Take Care of Your Stuff...

When I was a little girl, i remember I wanted a new bike, my mom and dad made sure that I got a bike. It was a brand new ten speed, however it came with some rules. No one else was to ride my bike. Also make sure you put it up on a kick stand. I was so excited about this bike, at first i followed all the rules. I made sure that I let no one ride it and I always put up on the kickstand. However as the bike got older, i became a little more careless with it, I didn't handle it with the care I should have, because it wasn't "new" any more.

As i meditated on this I thought about "stewardship", we often apply this to our money and things, but this also applies to our relationships, our time, our gifts and talents. God expects us to be good "stewards", managers over everything He has given us, and not just because they are "new". After all it is He, that provides us with everything we need (see Psalms 24:1, 1 Chronicles 29:12, Deuteronomy 8:17). I truly believe "life" happens and we forget the significance of stewardship in every area of our lives. Forgetting the promises associated with how we care for the things and the people that we are assigned to (see Matthew 25:14-30)..It is a necessity for us to manage life from God's perspective.

This morning God reminded me of the following verse in Colossians (2:23-24) . 23 Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being, for the Lord and not for men,24 because you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as your reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Everything we do should be done unto the Lord, so that it doesn't lose it's significance and value along the way, remembering how precious everything and everyone is in our lives. Stewardship is Kingdom practice, and we should govern ourselves according by remaining in love and walking with the mind of Christ (seeJohn 15:9 and Philippians 2:5-8).
