Are you Coachable?

Dear Friend,

It is basketball season, and i love basketball. All of my sons have played at some capacity. During the summer time we have usually attended one or two basketball camps. I have always thought my sons were good players. At every camp the first day, the players are evaluated to see their level of skill and to decide what other areas should they focus on during camp, and even after camp. I remember one camp, I thought one of my sons would score high in a particular area, but when we got the evaluation back his scores were actually low, I asked the coach who evaluated him about it, He said, "He has it but he is just wild, and all over the place, he needs to learn control. " What we thought was good, was only good from our own evaluation, but not good by the standard of this seasoned and experienced coach.

1 Corinthians 11:31, "But if we were more discerning with regard to ourselves, we would not come under such judgment." The discernment comes from spending time with God and in the Word, allowing the Word to become our conviction and our measurement for where we are in our relationship with God. The Holy Spirit longs to coach us through many of our situations in life, but we spend time resisting Him and not allowing Him to show us the areas in our life that need improvement. I learned that summer that my son was "coachable" and because he was "coachable" he began to excel and do well in basketball! Self evaluation is often difficult, but actually you aren't doing it alone, you are being coached by the Holy Spirit if you allow Him the opportunity to properly lead you and show you the way. Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way, truth and the "life". If you want to experience "the life", the fullness of what you want and to live the abundant life, allow the Holy Spirit to coach you. You won't lose.

Evaluating Myself,
