Simply the wrong way...
Dear Friend,
I remember before there were GPS we were using road maps. I recall my family buying a large road map that would show us the highways and which roads to take from state to state. I remember getting to some states and buying smaller maps with more details if we wanted to spend time with that state. I have never really been good with directions. The reason being is because I always thought my way, was a much better direction even if I didn't know where I was going (Ha!) If someone gave me directions to get to a place, I would find myself deviating from the directions. Sometimes I would make a turn on the street before or after the one they told me because I thought I had discovered a short cut. Almost every time that I didn’t follow the directions given to me, I would wind up off course, some dead in street or turned around.
I think, no let me be honest, I know I have been like this many times in my walk God. I have simply gone the wrong way, not because He didn’t talk to me, but simply because I was neglectful or REFUSED to obey what He was saying to me. I thought it was better to do it my way. James 1:22-24, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
It’s not enough for us to have the directions, and not use them. Much like when I would get lost, the same thing happens to us. God is looking for us to obey, move and adhere even in the small things as well as the big things. We adhere to the Word of God regardless if we feel like it or not or we think we have found a short cut. There is a reward in your obedience to the Written Word and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we end up exactly where we are supposed to be. The blessing is in the obedience.
