Cutting Away the Dead Things!

Cutting Away at the Dead Things by LaKisha M. Johnson

For the last few weeks on my Facebook live we have been talking about Kingdom Advancement, fulfilling the assignment for Christ on this earth. What are the dead things that keep you from advancing? What are the dead things in your life, that can’t produce fruit? Your past failures and mistakes, a bad relationship, anxiety, fear or worry, all are dead things that can’t and won’t yield fruit, we have to realize the “dead things” in our lives, that don’t “produce fruit” (joy, love, peace, patience see Galatians 5:22-23) and cut them away.

We have a few trees in our backyard. At one point I noticed the tree next to my neighbor’s fence looked a little different. Over the next few weeks I began to see all the leaves falling off and noticed that the branches were bare. The wood on the tree was discolored and didn’t look as if it had any life to it. I knew that the tree was dead, but I refused to do anything about it. I should have had the tree cut down, so that it wouldn’t do any harm. It was too close to my neighbor’s fence. I was taking a risk if it fail, that it would damage his fence and I would have to pay for it to be fixed. Well the tree, fell and damaged my neighbor’s fence. As soon as I noticed that the tree was dead, I should have dealt with it. I should have cut it down immediately.

It’s the same thing for our lives spiritually, if things aren’t producing fruit in our life, then we need to cut them off. Fear, anxiety and worry only produce more fear, anxiety and worry. Matthew 6:27, “Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” If we answer this in spirit or truth, we know that they can’t. The same is for our dead past, Christ has renewed us and we are delivered from that place and that time in our life, 2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” If we are going to walk into our new territory, fulfill our purpose, we have got to cut away the dead things. Dead things don’t produce fruit, after a while they rot, they smell and they don’t grow. John 15:2 “Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.”
